City Hall – Roubaix (59) France
A public works contract to layout the reception desk of Roubaix city Hall in the right wing of the castle located on the Roubaix main square, a scheduled monument. The architecture is the symbol of the prestige and grandeur of that period textile industry. The idea was to create an open space with a disable people access. The complexity lays in both respecting customer requirements and highlighting the existing architecture. We decided to set uncluttured furniture in the center of the building, leaving the walls as they are. The inside envelope can be renovated like its original aspect. A very sensitive work on the light allows to reveal its ornamentation. The dialogue and superposition of architectural languages create an emotion. As a real metaphor of the mutation of Roubaix city, the alteration gives a new birth to this former wool manufacture.
